A new Banded Sanderling at Six Men’s

Sanderlings are no stranger to Six Men’s Bay. This fish market on the western coast of the island plays host to over one hundred of these birds yearly, among them are a few banded birds. The first and most recorded banded bird was Y2L who was sighted in 2012, 2013, 2014 and in January of this year, 2015.  The other bird 19Y was first seen in November last year 2014.  As of November 24th, 2015 however, Six Men’s is playing host to a new banded bird, Sanderling CVE.

Sanderling CVE

Banded Sanderling CVE was spotted at Six Men’s Bay on Tuesday, November 24th, 2015 at 7:45am.  It was captured and tagged earlier this year, March 22nd, on Villas Beaches, New Jersey, United States.  It was re-sighted on March 26th and 29th on Fortescue - Raybins Beach, New Jersey and on August 24th on North Brigantine Natural Area, New Jersey before being spotted here. I recorded the sighting on the website  Bandedbirds.org.

So far this is the only banded Sanderling that was seen but I am on the lookout for the regulars, Y2L and 19Y and any new birds.
