Bird #34: Solitary Sandpiper




Common Name: Solitary Sandpiper
Scientific Name: Tringa solitaria    
Description: 7.5-9 inches; white eye-ring; upperparts dark olive green- brown with white spots; black bar on the tail feathers; underparts white;
Habitat: mud flaps, pot holes, ponds, swamps etc.
The Solitary Sandpiper is a bird with a different. Unlike other sandpipers that migrates in flocks this sandpiper migrates alone thus its name. It also nests in trees while most sandpipers nest on the ground.
