Description: 25-28 inches; stocky; short neck;. Adult: black crown; short bill; red eyes; white plumes; underparts white; upperparts black; wings grey. Immature: upperparts brown with white spots; yellowish to orange color eyes; underparts brown to whitish.
Habitat: Swamps and ponds; feed on fish, frogs etc.
Statue: Resident Breeder; Winter Visitor; First recorded breeding was at
