Orange Winged Parrot (Amazona amazonica)


Description: 12.5 inches; Yellow cheeks; yellow crown; lores blue; nape blue; upperparts green; blue primaries feathers; orange patch on secondaries; underparts green; square tail; orange base on outer tail feathers. Habitat: Urban areas; under treat from poacher for pet trade.
Statue: Introduced specie; breeding resident

Description:
13-16 inches; black cap; black nape; tail deeply forked with elongated outer tail feather; underparts whitish. Breeding: bill reddish orange with black tip; upperparts light silver-grey; black outer primaries; legs reddish orange. Non-breeding: Black legs. Juvenile: upperparts brownish; white fore head.

Western Sandpiper

Scientific Name:
Calidris mauri        

Description:
5-5.75 inches; long bill, thick base, slightly drooping tip; black legs; underparts white. Breeding: reddish brown crown, ear patch; heavily marked breast. Non-Breeding: upperparts greyish brown.

Habitat:
Mud flaps, seashores etc

Statue:
non-breeding migrant; migrant; winter resident

Bird #62: Belted Kingfisher





Common Name: Belted Kingfisher

Scientific Name: Megaceryle alcyon           

Description: 11-14 inches; bushy crest; large dagger shape bill; white spot in front of eyes; upperparts bluish grey with white spots; underparts white with bluish grey breastband; black and white bars on wing and tail. Female: additional rust colored bellyband below blue breastband.


Habitat: Body of water containing fish such as Graeme Hall, Chancery Lane Swamps, Codrington Colledge Pond, Long Pondetc  


Statue: migrant; winter resident; locally refer to as the Duck Pilot because “their arrival usually precedes the arrival of the Blue-winged Teal Duck on their southward migration”…. Dr John Webster host of Breakfast with the Birds
